September 26, 2011 by Deb Sexton Leave a Comment

When choosing a long term care facility for your love one, you will need to carefully consider all of your options.  This will allow you to choose a care option that fits in with your love one’s individual needs. An assisted living facility may be an option to consider and is discussed in this portion of our article.

An assisted living facility allows your loved one to maintain some independence while also getting assistance with some needs.  Take a look at some of the information below, to learn more about this option.  If you have any questions, or if you’d like help choosing a long term care facility, contact an elder law – estate planning attorney.

What is an assisted living facility?

An assisted living facility may be a great option for your loved one if she wants to maintain a certain level of independence while also getting care that is needed.  In these community facilities, residents are able to have their own private living space and are able to take part in community events and services.  Additionally, residents are able to get assistance with daily needs such as transportation, meal preparation, health services, and more.

Independence mixed with assistance, a good balance

Your loved one is able to maintain a regular lifestyle while also taking advantage of a little extra assistance.  This can also be a great way for your loved one to take part in community events and services so that she is able to have regular socialization with other residents.

Emergency assistance available

Assisted living facilities are also a great way to make sure that your loved one is always protected. With this type of long term care option, your loved one is always able to get help, in the event of an emergency.

Take a look at our next blog post (part 3 of 3) to learn more about other long term care options.  If you have any questions, or if you’d like help choosing the best long term care facility, contact an elder law – estate planning attorney.
