For many people the idea of retirement is something they take for granted. They just assume that one day they will retire and no longer work. But for others, that idea is something they’ve never considered. For these people, work is such an integral part of life that retirement is not an option. Such an idea is not as crazy as it may sound. There are many reasons why you may want to consider not retiring.
Reason 1: You like being active.
Work isn’t just good for your wallet, it’s also good for you. Numerous studies have shown that staying active, keeping your mind occupied, and regularly interacting with others can significantly aid your health. You can accomplish all of these things while working.
Reason 2: You enjoy work.
For many, work is not a chore, but a passion. It’s a way to keep in touch with others, to collaborate, to be a part of something bigger than yourself. A job offers you the ability to test yourself, it gives you a sense of purpose and usefulness. Even if you’ve already retired, a part-time job can often be a very rewarding experience.
Reason 3: You like money.
Even if you have a healthy retirement account or enough money to stop working whenever you want, you may want to keep working just so you have a little something extra. Even if you’re just working a part-time job to pay for extensive vacations or indulging your grandchildren, not retiring is a great way to give yourself some financial breathing room.
